A young woman who was told she’d never conceive a child after undergoing cancer treatment has given birth to a baby girl called ‘miracle’.

Annmarie Bowen, from near Caerphilly, South Wales, was just 21 when she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.

She immediately underwent grueling chemotherapy and was placed on drugs that were expected to leave her infertile.

But shortly after being given the all-clear after a six-year battle this March, she became pregnant.

And now the 27-year-old is celebrating the birth of her first child – a 7lb 9oz baby girl called Pollyanna Mireille Williams – the middle name meaning ‘miracle’ in French.

Ms. Bowen said: ‘These last six years have been a rollercoaster but I’m over the moon to have finally found such amazing happiness.

‘Her middle name, Mireille, means miracle in French. She really is our little miracle.

‘My family and friends have been so supportive throughout it all – I honestly couldn’t wish for a better family.

‘Motherhood is the best thing in the world. It’s amazing how you can love something so little so much.’

Ms. Bowen discovered a large lump in her breast in 2011.

She claims doctors told her she should never have conceived because she was taking tamoxifen to prevent her cancer returning.

But doctors told her she was too young to have cancer and that it was more likely to be a cyst.

Her persistence for testing saw her referred for a mammogram and then a biopsy. The latter confirmed she had cancer.

Almost immediately, she underwent a lumpectomy and started chemotherapy to try to prevent any spread of the growth.

She claims doctors told her she should never have conceived because she was taking tamoxifen to prevent her cancer returning.

She was offered the option to freeze her eggs for the future – but was warned it would delay her treatment for three months.

And because her tumor was growing quickly, she made the decision to put her own health before anything else.

In 2015, after becoming pregnant with twins – much to the surprise of medical experts – she suffered a heterotopic pregnancy.

Not only did she lose both of her babies, but one of her fallopian tubes was removed.

She added: ‘I was a miracle I’d fallen pregnant I was so happy. But then it felt like the odds were stacked against me again.

‘Having one fallopian tube left gave me even less chance of conceiving.’

Then in March 2016, Ms. Bowen was given the all clear from cancer.

And just a couple of weeks later, her and her boyfriend Lee Williams discovered she was pregnant once again.

She said: ‘At first I found the pregnancy scary. I worried a lot because it was a miracle that I and my partner Lee got pregnant in the first place.

‘Lee has been incredible, he knows everything about my past and has been so supportive.’
