The former Manchester United player Rooney, 33 has been arrested for public intoxication and swearing charges in Washington D.C. Rooney, who now plays for American team DC United, was charged on December 16 in Loudoun County, Virginia, officials said. He was arrested by the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority, although it is unclear whether he was held at the airport or elsewhere in the vicinity Officials state that he was released on his own recognizance and he reportedly paid a $25 fine on January 4.
He has been living stateside since he signed a three and half year deal with Major League Soccer Club D.C. United in June last year. In addition, his wife Coleen Rooney, 32, spent six months in the United State before heading to her hometown of Liverpool for Christmas and New Year. Rooney is currently 13 months into a drink-driving ban and has already completed 100 hours of community service, part of his punishment.
