The quest to have another world bank president has began after Jim Yong Kim, announced that he would be cutting short his tenure on Monday. Ivanka Trump is reportedly in the running as a possible candidate to take over as head of the World Bank.
Hoewver, US President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter is now being considered for the role, alongside former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, the Financial Times reports. Other names in the hat include Treasury Undersecretary for International Affairs David Malpass and Mark Green, head of the US Agency for International Development, the publication said. Ivanka, 37, was the driving force behind a billion dollar Saudi-supported World Bank fund to promote entrepreneurship by women in 2017.
A spokesperson for the Treasury Department said they had received a ‘significant number of recommendations’ and had no comment on potential candidates. ‘We are beginning the internal review process for a US nominee,’ they said. ‘We look forward to working with the governors to select a new leader.
